Our story
From a neighborhood pizza shop to an Alameda institution — 37 years and counting.
A-Town Pizza and Kabob House has been a fixture on Blanding Avenue since the late 1980s, growing from a humble local pizza spot into one of the most recognized and beloved restaurants on the island. For nearly four decades, we've served Alameda families, college students, late-night diners, and everyone in between — building a loyal community one fresh pie and one perfectly grilled kabob at a time.
What makes our story unique is the fusion at the heart of our menu. We combined the best of American-style gourmet pizza — with fresh dough made every single day — with the rich, aromatic flavors of Afghan cuisine, including char-broiled lamb chops, beef shish kabob, and chicken kabob marinated in special Afghan seasoning. The result is a menu unlike anything else on the island: where pizza meets the grill, and every dish is made with pride.

Everything at A-Town starts with freshness. Our pizza dough is made from scratch every single day — never frozen, never pre-made — giving every crust that perfect balance of crispiness on the outside and pillowy softness on the inside. Our sauces, from classic marinara to creamy white garlic to vibrant pesto, are layered with real flavor that you taste in every bite.
Our kabobs carry a different kind of pride: char-broiled over an open flame and marinated in special Afghan seasoning passed down through generations. From our Chopan Lamb Kabob to our Chicken Kabob, each skewer is a genuine taste of Afghan culinary tradition — served with fresh Afghan bread, rice, and house special sauce. We also offer dedicated Halal options across our pizza, pasta, kabob, and wing menus, making A-Town one of the most inclusive restaurants in Alameda.

If you're here for the first time, start with the A-Town Special Pizza — our ultimate signature loaded with salami, ham, pepperoni, linguiça, ground beef, Italian sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes, bell pepper, olives, onions, fresh garlic, pineapple, artichoke hearts, anchovies, feta cheese, and jalapeño. It's everything on one crust and it earns its name. For a gourmet veggie option, the Gourmet Veggie Pizza with creamy white sauce, spinach, artichokes, zucchini, and mushrooms is one of the best on the island.
For the kabob experience, the Chopan Kabob (char-broiled lamb chops with Afghan seasoning, served with bread and rice) is a standout that loyal customers rave about. The Tekah Kabob — beef shish kabob over an open flame — and the Chicken Kabob are equally beloved.
